This article has been inspired by Dussel’s critique of Cartesian philosophy and by his world- historical work on the conquest of the Americas in the long 16th century 2. His work embraces many fields of scholarship such as Political-Economy, World-History, and Philosophy, among others. He has not only decontructed dominant knowledge structures but also constructed a body of work in Ethics, Political Philosophy and Political Economy that has been internationally very influential. His titanic effort has been dedicated to demolish the philosophical foundations and world-historical narratives of Eurocentrism. The work of Enrique Dussel, liberation theologian and liberation philosopher, is fundamental for anybody interested in the decolonization of knowledge and power.

Richie had been caught stealing food to feed his nine siblings. One of the boys in the camp, Richie, was only twelve years old. Once, Stag was beaten by a white man, and later a group of white men tied up Pop and Stag and took them to a work camp called Parchman. When they were young, Stag would always get into trouble. Jojo hid in the barn with the animals and stepped on a jagged can, which caused a fight between Pop and Leonie about whether Jojo was old enough to be left alone.īack in the present, Pop tells Jojo that he and Stag have the same dad but different mothers. Leonie left Jojo alone, and while she was gone Pop’s brother, Stag-who is “sick in the head”-walked past outside. Jojo explains that nowadays he calls his mother by her first name, Leonie, rather than “Mama.” He recalls a time just after Mam was diagnosed with cancer, when his grandparents left him alone with Leonie. After they kill the goat, Pop sends Jojo back inside, saying he heard Jojo’s three-year-old sister, Kayla, crying. Jojo’s father, Michael, has many tattoos, some of which he got in prison. Jojo’s other grandfather, Big Joseph, is white, and Jojo has only met him a couple of times. Jojo and his grandfather, Pop, slaughter a goat for the family to eat. Jojo’s grandmother, Mam, is undergoing chemotherapy (a treatment for cancer), so she sleeps a lot. The first chapter is told from the perspective of Jojo on his thirteenth birthday. I have been working on some personal and career goals for a while now with varying-and I mean VARYING-levels of success, focus, and motivation. I've been thinking a lot about goals and how to achieve them, especially the difficult ones. It's asking for answers, but it's not cheating. I don't know a single professional who hasn't asked a colleague to be a second set of eyes on a high-stakes communication. It's about building on real-life actions and experiences by actually DOING the thing. One thing I love about experiential and competency-based learning is that it's not about rote memorization to help you pass a test and move on. She responded with "now I feel like high school students looking up the answers to online tests on Quizlet just so they can pass." I have a good friend and former coworker who asked for my help writing a business communication assignment for her degree for a manufacturing simulation, and because I had about 8 months of project management experience in a manufacturing facility (a random pivot in my career), I had some insight I could offer her that helped her out. You get to know these characters and spend time with them. While I definitely have a favorite ranking of the books ( the order they were released in) and a favorite character ( Beckett from In the Weeds – 100%), all of the books left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling I mentioned earlier. If that doesn’t sound fun to you, I will go into some tropes for each of the novels next! What are the tropes/themes for each book? Most of the stories feature miscommunication (which is usually a pet peeve of mine, but done so well here), idiots in love (as in everyone can see they’re meant to be except for them) and a whole bunch of meddling townsfolk. While the individual love stories are completed each time, you still have that interconnectedness that comes with reoccurring characters and that warm fuzzy feeling that found family tropes give me. Set at Lovelight farms, a Christmas tree farm in a lovely small town, the series follows different characters on their journey to finding love. So, why not shine a light (no pun intended) on the Lovelight series? After a friend of mine posted their fancasting of some of the characters and there just happened to be an actor I really love mentioned for one of them, I could no longer resist and had to pick them up myself – no regrets! What is the Lovelight series about? While I talk about TV shows and movies aplenty on here, books sometimes take a backseat, although that was never intentional. It’s almost the end of March and I just figured I had to attempt at least one somewhat creative post. Sheer joy from beginning to end.’ Carole Matthews Choc-full of romantic heroes that would give Darcy a run for his money. Caught up in a flirtatious game of words, her reputation, and life as she knows it, are on the line.
